The Drops Add up

When I started this blog... just a little over four years ago... I called it "Glass Half Full" because that's how I naturally tried to see things, all the time. I was born with the madness and despite the best efforts of a couple of teachers, some mean kids, a few boyfriends, a college roommate or two, and hard hits from life in general as I became a real grown-up, the tendency has stuck to me like the dimple in my cheek. I like the dimple. Some genetic mishap from my dad's side caused a point in the fleshy part of my face to stay put when I smile, or when I grimace, rendering me quite harmless looking. And I like being positive about things, looking for the bright side, making the best of things.
Yes, I've had my share of eye rolls in my direction, but the glass half full thing comes in handy when my volleyball team needs a boost instead of a downer, when my teens think it's the end of the world and I have to convince them it's not, when unexpected turns bend our road of life and my husband needs reassurance to offset his perfectionism, when the world around me is collapsing, bringing me down with it. I have a tendency to fight it. Fight it hard.
So, in reflecting on this blog and past entries, and knowing I needed to catch the time to update and post after a very busy few months, I offer you a few glimpses of moments that fill my cup. Half Full, of course.
And these are just a few drops. Half Full, indeed.

Someday I'll Catch Up

I have neglected this blog, but not on purpose! I feel, very soon, I will get the time I need to upload some pictures and share some stories and change up that very cold picture above now that it is finally warming up here! Even my birthday list is from April! Gah! Happy birthday, May people!

Some quick pics: Me on Constitution Ave.on our last day in WA DC.
Brandon in front of the Capitol.
Brodie after his first haircut. His curls are just returning now.

Time to make dinner!

Nineteen

A few weeks ago we were traveling in a car full of kids with a blizzard chasing us, roads closing behind us, the travel snacks had been left behind, and I refused to help drive. This song came on the radio, and somehow, everything quieted, and B took my hand and said, "This is our song." I hadn't heard it before. He had.

"Then"
by Brad Paisley

I remember trying not to stare
The night that I first met you
You had me mezmorized
And three weeks later
In the front porch light
Taking 45 minutes to kiss goodnight
I hadn't told you yet
I thought I loved you then

Now you're my whole life
Now you're my whole world
I just can't believe
The way I feel about you girl
Like a river meets the sea
Stronger than its ever been
We've come so far since that day
And I thought I loved you then

I remember taking you back
To right where I first met you
You were so suprised
There were people around
But I didn't care
I got down on one knee right there
And once again
I thought I loved you then

Now you're my whole life
Now you're my whole world
I just can't believe
The way I feel about you girl
Like a river meets the sea
Stronger than its ever been
We've come so far since that day
And I thought I loved you then

I can just see you
With a baby on the way
I can just see you
When your hair is turning grey
What I can't see
Is how I'm ever gonna love you more
But I've said that before

Now you're my whole life
Now you're my whole world
I just can't believe
The way I feel about you girl
We'll look back someday
At this moment that we're in
And I'll look at you and say
And I thought I loved you then

And I thought I loved you then

We are so busy, but B, you took time to tell me. I've read your card 10 times this morning. Happy Anniversary, Blue Eyes.
19 years is a long road between 21 and 40, and I've always loved you. I always will.

Long, Long Ago... In a Parking Lot Far, Far Away...

You know I'm a Star Wars geek, right? And as much as I appreciate George Lucas rounding out the story for us, I have a forever soft spot in my heart for Episodes IV-VI. So, a friend of mine found this, and I'd thought I'd share...

Oh, man, I'm still cracking up.

Spring Break In Salt Lake

It was a quick trip, but we made the most of it! A winter blizzard closed all the roads behind us as we drove, but the sun came out and they opened just in time to come home. Definitely worth the family time.
Shopping!
Eating!
Planetarium!
Temple Square!
Hogle Zoo!
And Maren's Birthday!

Hooray!
